FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
2021 San Francisco PornFilmFestival Broadcasts Live from the Brava!
Bay Area festival offers a hybrid virtual theatrical celebration of sexual cinema

SAN FRANCISCO, California, U.S.A. – Pink and White Productions announces the 2021 San Francisco PornFilmFestival, with film programs on November 11th and 12th at the city’s historic Brava Theater, broadcasting live to an international audience. November 13th and 14th see more virtual film programs and filmmaker talks, powered by its streaming platform, PinkLabel.TV. The hybrid festival runs November 10th through 28th and presents over 90 films.

The festival debuted in 2020 with crowdfunded support from the sex tech community to build a streaming platform and host an entirely virtual event in response to COVID-19 lockdowns. This year, as venues safely return to indoor public events, the festival presents two action – packed days of in-person programming at the Brava Theater located in San Francisco’s vibrant Mission District. Broadcasting live from the theater, the festival offers a hybrid virtual event, benefiting from the increased accessibility and international reach of a virtual festival.

Following the in-person screenings, the programs continue online through November 28th.
Kicking off the virtual festival on Wednesday November 10th is FORE/PLAY, a grand curation of 40
features and shorts (including a restoration of French gay classic Equation to an Unknown (1980) and contemporary Taiwanese sex comedy Bull King Husband) available on-demand for 24 hours, welcoming virtual audiences from across the globe and timezones to watch at their leisure in anticipation of the scheduled live events.

Thursday November 11th and Friday November 12th screenings will be broadcast live from the BRAVA
Theater to virtual audiences. Audiences are in for a rare treat as the festival’s theatrical offerings include two feature films with significant San Francisco historical importance and special guests, and two short film presentations spanning sexual diversity and documentary film.
Thursday, November 11th presents SEX/SCENE at 4pm, a short film curation that reflects the diversity of sexually explicit media, and includes films by local filmmakers: La Limpia by Ramses Rodstein, Rising Sun Blues by Sura Hertzberg, and Trans-cendent Delight by Jaq Quicksilver.

The night’s 7pm feature film SAFE IS DESIRE (1993) is a safer-sex themed lesbian film produced by
famed dyke porn studio Fatale Media. The narrative film follows two women as they build trust and
educates viewers on sexual health, complete with an orgy facilitated by the famed 90’s peer sexual health performance act, the Safer Sex Sluts. The screening is followed by an on-stage talk with Fatale Media director Nan Kinney. SAFE IS DESIRE is preceded by the short Loved Him, a reflection on how navigating life, relationship and sex during a pandemic is nothing new to gay and bisexual men who lived through the AIDS pandemic of the 80s and 90s – and which continues to kill a million people per year.

Friday, November 12th screens REEL/SEX at 4pm, a short film collection of documentaries, including local filmmakers: Sovereign Sex by Dom Razberry and Daemon Derriere. Films span topics of sexual shame, survivor sex, isolation to representation of disability and capturing the lost art of cruising.

Wrapping the live theatrical programs is Friday night’s 7pm feature film, the late filmmaker and AIDS activist Arthur J. Bressan Jr.’s FORBIDDEN LETTERS (1979), post-Stonewall, pre-AIDS, and infused in gay liberation politics. The film is accompanied by an on-stage talk with the film’s star Robert Adams and LGBTQ film historian Jenni Olson, whose work with the Bressan Project enabled the digital restoration of the incredible long-lost classic.

SAFE IS DESIRE and FORBIDDEN LETTERS, filmed in San Francisco, display shots of city landmarks
(including Lands End, The Castro, Alcatraz, Gay Freedom Day Parade). Audiences will delight in the restored classic LGBTQ films whether watching them for the first time –or the first time in the theater since their debuts decades ago.

On November 13th, the festival continues with online-only programs POWER/PLAY curation of BDSM
shorts, ANI/MATING showcasing animated and comedy shorts, a DOUBLE/FEATURE presenting award-winning erotic mini-features Matinee by Jennifer Lyon Bell and Chemistry Eases the Pain by Shine
Louise Houston. On November 14th, VIVID/VISION showcases experimental, genre-pushing sex films, and feature-length critically acclaimed bisexual masterpiece SCORE by the late Radley Metzger.

All films and programs will be available streaming November 15th through the 28th on-demand for a two week-long RE/PLAY period.

Tickets are available for $15 per screening or $50 for a Theater Pass with access to all four programs.
Virtual Passes are $25 and grant online access to all the festival’s screenings and filmmaker talks. Adhering to CDC and city guidelines, all theater attendees must provide proof of COVID vaccination. For tickets and more information, visit sfpff.pinklabel.tv.
